Among its features, the D300 has a Live View, in-camera Lateral Chromatic Aberration and 920,000 pixel, 3-inch LCD. This LCD also serves as an electronic mirror in the pentaprism.
There’s the Scene Recognition System that merges data from the AF system with data from the 1,005-point metering system. Nikon’s Multi-CAM 3500DX AF system is featured as well. Its 51-point “precision focus” AF points include 15 cross-type points.
The Multi-CAM system can be set to five modes on the Nikon D300. Nikon includes its 1,005-area metering sensor in this model. The Nikon D300 also has a self-cleaning sensor, and optic-by-optic autofocus fine-tuning, plus the ability to upgrade to eight-frames-per-second with the purchase of a battery grip. It has 14-bit A/D conversion available in RAW mode.
The Nikon D300 has a system called AF fine tune, where the camera can store adjustments for up to 12 lenses. There’s also the ability to control the camera from a computer remotely, and that includes receiving a Live View image from the camera. Nikon’s new models require the optional Camera Control Pro software to enable this feature.
The D300 is capable of six frames-per-second, and up to eight fps when used with the MB-D10 Multi-Power battery pack.

The EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi has a larger 3 inch LCD screen, new 9-point AF system, 14-bit processing, spot metering, SD cards instead of CompactFlash, and a 3.5fps continuous mode. There’s even a new kit lens, the EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS, which should help dispel some of the criticism aimed at Canon for not offering an affordable image stabilisation solution.
